OT in Adult Learning Disabilities team

Hello my name is Louise, I work in the Adult Learning Disabilities Service.

My Small Change, Big Impact involved a client aged 28, who has autism and profound short term memory difficulties. She had difficulty in preparing a hot meal, relying on the carers to prompt her what to do next. I observed her preparing meals and then adapted recipes,breaking down the instructions into manageable steps. I introduced her to technology such as the ‘Alexa app’  for prompts and the timer.

She is now able to take the lead with meal preparation and requires significantly less support from carers. She is more confident and has increased her skills with meal preparation.
